Think Projects as a Teamwork.com alternative

Who this suits
Teams of roughly three to twenty who use Teamwork for its messages, task lists and files and pay per user for a product built with larger agencies in mind. If your business runs on Teamwork's budgets, invoicing, retainers, proofing or resource planning, Teamwork is built for that and will most likely remain the better fit.
What your week would look like
The shape is familiar: message threads per project with @mentions, reactions and files; task lists with subtasks five deep, tags, priorities, estimates, dependencies and repeating tasks; milestones; files in one place; time tracking with a timer and a billable flag.
Three things are different:
- The timeline forecasts the finish. Give tasks estimates, say who does them and when people are away, and the plan works out when each task runs and when the project lands, around your working week and bank holidays. When an estimate changes, the forecast moves and plan health says why.
- Clients reply by email. Every notification is a proper email; a reply lands in the thread or on the task under the client's name. Guests are free and unlimited on every plan.
- The weekly update is drafted for you from the week's activity, for a person to review and send.

Bringing your work with you
Export the site from Teamwork (Settings → Export → Backup your entire database) and drop the zip into the import wizard. Projects, task lists, tasks with their comments, milestones, and messages with every reply come across with their original authors and dates, and pictures can be copied. Files attached in Teamwork, time entries, budgets and Desk tickets do not come across — keep them where you can open them. The full account is on the switching page.
Where Teamwork is the better choice
Budgets, rates, invoicing and retainers; proofing; intake forms; workload and capacity planning; a rule builder; native phone apps; Teamwork Desk. If any of those is central to how you work, Teamwork will suit you better.
