Think Projects as a Trello alternative
The boards you know, plus the plan, the conversations and the client updates a board cannot hold.
Who this suits
Teams who started on a Trello board and have outgrown it: cards with dates but no plan behind them, conversations in card comments nobody can find later, clients who need a status but not a board. If a board is all you need, Trello's free plan is hard to beat.
What your week would look like
- The board is still there — the same tasks as a Kanban board, a list, a calendar and a timeline, so nobody gives up the view they think in.
- A plan behind the cards. Give tasks estimates and the timeline forecasts when each finishes and when the project lands, around your working week and people's holidays; a fixed milestone the plan can no longer reach turns red.
- Conversations that survive. Threads per project rather than comments on cards, with reply by email, so clients can reply to project notifications from their inbox.
- A weekly status update drafted for a person to send, and time tracking with a timer for teams that bill by the hour.
What you would keep: lists and cards as lists and tasks, labels as tags, members as assignees, dates, checklists as subtasks, and picture attachments.

Bringing your board with you
Export the board as JSON (board menu → More → Print and export → Export as JSON) and drop it into the import wizard. Lists, cards with descriptions, members, labels, dates, "complete" marks, checklists and picture attachments come across; comments, other attachments, custom fields and archived items stay behind. Where Trello is the better choice
A free board for a handful of people; Power-Ups; Butler automation; native phone apps; the wider Atlassian family. If your team's work is a board and nothing more, Trello will suit you well.
